About

The Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival is an annual event hosted by different colleges and universities throughout the Mid-west, with participants from as far away as New Mexico, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio. The goals of the festival are to foster camaraderie and pedagogical exchanges between guitar teachers and students, provide performance opportunities for student ensembles, and to contribute to the over-all artistic and cultural enrichment of the community.

The first festival took place in 1991 at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois and has since been sponsored by schools in Missouri, Indiana, Michigan, and other schools in Illinois. Participation has grown to over 150 attendees, and the guest artists have included such renowned groups as the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, The Assad Duo, The Texas Guitar Quartet, Los Romeros, Australian Guitar Duo, Canadian Guitar Quartet, Duo Melis and many others.
